Abstract:
In this article, Mikel Basabe raises his doubts about the new education law being prepared by the government of the Western Basque Country (Basque Autonomous Community). Specifically, the author states that the new law proposes a single linguistic model, multilingual (Basque, Spanish and English). With the new law, the so-called D model, the majority model in Basque schools and based on total immersion in the Basque language, will therefore disappear. This has been for years the objective of the Spanish socialists who share with the PNV (Basque Nationalist Party) the government in the Basque Autonomous Community: to reduce the presence of Basque, nowadays the majority language, in the Basque education system.
