Abstract:
The Basque writer Pako Aristi in this article denounces the Spanish cultural colonisation suffered by the Basques, which also extends to the musical world: it is increasingly common in the bars of our towns to hear Spanish music. Furthermore, it seems as if the owners of those bars are ashamed of playing Basque music, another symptom of the serious de-culturalisation process undergone by the Basque. In the name of a false “miscegenation”, Spanish flamenco music is also disseminated in our country, with the clear purpose of making it Spanish. Is Basque music heard in Madrid or in Seville?
