Abstract:
In this article, the author denounces the scarce presence of the Basque language in the cinematographic offer. For example, at the recent San Sebastian film festival, only 10% of the program was shown in Basque. In the cinemas of the Basque Country, only between 1% and 2% of the films can be seen in our language. As far as streaming platforms are concerned, popular pressure has managed to get Netflix or Amazon Primevideo to broadcast something more in Basque, but still only about 40-45 films have been dubbed or subtitled into the Basque language.
There is an urgent need for a language policy that takes into account the importance of revitalizing our language in the audio-visual media.
