Abstract:
The grandmother of one of the author’s friends, who was a monolingual Basque-speaker, kept quiet whenever there was a conversion in Spanish going on around her. Let Xabier Mendiguren highlight the following fact in this article: despite the Basque government carrying out an apparent language-normalization work, we Basque-speakers have to shut our mouths in the face of the Spanish language’s hegemony.
